I have been going to this salon on average once a month for years for manicure and pedicure (shellac on fingernails and normal polish on toes).

Last time I went they had a new guy there who gave me an extremely painful and distressing experience.

Before they can do the shellac they have to take the old polish off. To do this they buff your nails a bit then put cotton wool soaked in acetone and wrap it with foil around your fingernails. I have had this done many, many times.

But this time the new guy filed my nails so hard I thought he was going to break my fingers. Then he poured acetone directly onto my nails and then wrapped them so tightly they began to hurt.

Within 10 minutes I was in agony. My fingers were burning and the bones aching all at the same time. I called out that I was in pain and to please take them off. He wandered over and took one off and said it looks ok. I said "no, I'm in pain, get them off".

He took them off and when he did my fingers were burning, my hands were shaking and my fingernails had curled and shrivelled up into tiny little "u" shapes.

Instead of helping me (I was in extreme pain) he wanted to argue it wasn't his fault. He said I must just be sensitive this time.

I said don't argue with me - just get it off. They told me to go wash my hands in warm water. He then walked off.

Meanwhile the manager was pretending not to notice the commotion.

Two young girls then took me to a table to soak my hands in warm water for a while to ease the pain and I asked for the manager to come and see me.

The manager came over and was not overly concerned. She agreed he must have filed the tops of my nails too hard. She then had to get the rest of the polish off which was very painful.

She then left the two young girls to finish off. Not once after that did either the guy or the manager come to check if I was alright. They continued laughing and chatting with other customers.

After the girls finished, I paid and then asked to see the manager again. I said that her staff had caused me extreme pain and at the very least he should apologise to me.

The manager told me it was not her job to tell the staff "to have manners to the customer". It was only her job to teach him how to do nails (which she wasn't doing a very good job of anyway).

She said that she would apologise to me but would not make him apologise and with a smirk and grandiose motion with her arms said "I apologise" and then "are you happy now".

Umm ... no. They burnt my hands with chemicals, nearly broke my fingers, caused me extreme pain and then can't even give me a genuine or respectful apology. No, I'm not happy. My hands were sore and sensitive for days afterward. Needless to say I won't be returning.

Unfortunately I just got tired of booking appointments to still turn up and have to wait ages to see someone. I feel like the motivation is seeing as many people as possible and not looking after their repeat cliental. I am sure they will not miss my fortnightly appointments but I hope they look into better customer service and booking system in the future. There is too much competition to be an any other way.

After having a great experience previously at this salon, I went again on Monday and asked for the manicure + gel colour (same colour as last time).

I was assigned a girl who was much younger than the previous nail technician who serviced me. She worked in a great hurry and ended up cutting me twice (once without drawing blood and once which bled and she had to put some strange green liquid which I really hope was antiseptic) on which didn't seem very hygienic.

For the actual gel application.. I realised halfway that the bottle clearly did not have enough polish inside to have an opaque application. I would've really appreciated if she just spoke up and asked me if I wanted a different colour but she said nothing and I was a little shocked at the time from how bad the experience was turning out so I didn't say anything.

She was clearly not trained very well and kept bumping my painted and wet nails as she moved onto the next finger. It was very rushed and looks uneven and not enough layers/thick enough polish to be opaque.. has bumps on some nails too. It's only been 4 days and it already looks a week grown out since she left a noticeable gap between the cuticles and the polish...

She also usednon sterilised cuticle scissors from a random drawer during the painting when she realised some cuticles weren’t cut evenly... really hoping I don’t get an infection somehow.

Also when she finished she dumped a whole lot of oil onto my hands, rubbed it a bit and told me she was done. My hands looked like I just reached into a tub of oil and I had to awkwardly wipe it onto my clothes as I was ushered out quickly to pay and then they closed their doors.

Note I did come in 40 minutes before they closed but if they honestly told me they could not do the service within the time I would've understood completely...

I would not recommend this salon after this experience...

Really enjoy their nails always. Although got my eyebrows done today and they aren’t level - literally one is a cm above the other one and they are way too dark. Make sure you ask for light and make sure they are even.
